Metal isotope complexation with environmentally relevant surfaces: Opening the isotope fractionation black box

چکیده

The number of studies using various stable isotope systems for tracing contamination sources and biogeochemical processes is rapidly rising due to the increased availability techniques used analyses. However, in most cases, resulting data are influenced by many occurring within reactive environmental compartments, e.g., soils sediments, such as sorption, precipitation, redox changes, interactions with plants microorganisms, etc. Therefore, becomes challenging it crucial identify quantify fractionation extent during separate this so-called “isotope black box”. main aim review (i) summarize literature on selected metal isotopes (Cd, Cu, Hg, Ni, Zn) after complexation relevant surfaces, oxyhydroxides, clay minerals, natural organic matter etc., (ii) briefly describe analytical key procedures determination (iii) provide suggestions perspectives future research, including a critical evaluation specific issues related analyses especially interpretation results. For example, concentration equilibrium usually differs from equilibrium, coordination chemistry solution decipher isotopic fractionation, spectroscopic missing, different experimental conditions often potential precipitation desorption reactions not always considered, Consistent presentation adsorption/complexation would also be highly beneficial studies.

Opening the Black Box

Controversy over the aggregate impact of foreign aid has focused on reduced form estimates of the aid-growth link. The causal chain, through which aid affects developmental outcomes including growth, has received much less attention. We address this gap by: (i) specifying a structural model of the main relationships; (ii) estimating the impact of aid on a range of final and intermediate outcome...

I n t r o d u c t i o n : The study of Ag isotopic compositions is of particular interest because of the extinct radionuclide Pd, which decays to Ag with a half-life of 6.5 Myrs. Compared to the early measurements by TIMS, the use of multi-collector inductively coupled pla...
